• FGF activates the Ets-protein by dephosphorylation
• Ets then binds and activates heart-specific genes

• Ets binding sites:
  • GGAA (Elf3 on uniprobe http://the_brain.bwh.harvard.edu/uniprobe/details2?id=90)
  • Commonly GGA(TA)

• Steps:

1. Available enhancers
   1. Plot with Ets-motifs in them:
      1. Add to genome browser
         1. Funny: lrr2 and lrr3 not found in ci2
      2. Extract alignments
      3. Get conserved motifs
      4. Get non-conserved motifs
      5. Plot with RSAT
   2. Over-rep motifs
      1. get background: all conserved blocks around non-microarray genes
      2. Use deme or meme?
