Editing G-Wiki

  • G-Wiki uses the same software as Wikipedia, [1] a popular online wiki-encyclopedia. Wikipedia is responsible for the development of MediaWiki software. [2] G-Wiki may not always use the most recent version of MediaWiki.
  • Editing is discussed in depth on Wikipedia. [3]
  • Wikipedia is very strict about the styles and conventions of the entries, but G-Wiki isn't. Sectioning of the document is nice though because sections can be edited individually. Also, a table of contents is created automatically once a document has a certain number of sections.
  • Often, wiki documents have a short introduction using the title of the wiki document as the subject (not the predicate) of the first sentence, and putting it in bold.
  • One other good rule of thumb is that wiki document titles are usually in the singular versus the plural, so that it's easier to link to them. For the same reason, for multi-word titles, it's good to capitalize the first letter in the first word, but lowercase everything else (unless it's a name).
